When you think of an RV vacation, New York City probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind. The city is densely packed with buildings, and it’s not like you can park your RV in Central Park!

Although you may think New York City is the kind of place where you stay in a hotel and leave your RV behind, it’s simply not true. You can vacation in New York City and stay in an RV at the same time. Whether you own your RV or you want to rent one, just make sure you follow these tips and your NYC vacation will be a success.

Know Where You Can Stay

The very first thing you have to consider is where you’re going to stay. It’s pretty obvious that you won’t find a spacious campground that accommodates RVs within city limits, but there are quite a few RV parks to consider that are located near NYC.

If you want to be as close to the city as possible, you will want to consider Liberty Harbor RV Park. It can be a bit pricey compared to other RV parks you’ve stayed in, but it’s cheaper than staying in a hotel in the city!

If you don’t mind a bit of a drive, other parks are available too that include Camp Gateway, which is located in Brooklyn, and Black Bear Campground, which is located in Florida, New York.

Get a Subway Pass

Even though you enjoy the freedom of coming and going in an RV, it’s a lot less stressful to purchase a subway pass and plan to take public transit every time you want to venture into the city. It may cost a little money, but it will save you the headache of trying to drive your RV through New York City rush hour traffic!

Know What You Want to See and When

Because you’re not staying directly in the city, it is important to know exactly what you want to see. There are many attractions to choose from that include:

  • Central Park
  • Broadway
  • The High Line
  • Chelsea Market
  • Barneys New York
  • Comedy Cellar

It doesn’t matter what you choose to do with your time, it is equally important to know when you’re going to do everything so you can do as much as possible without wasting time.

Don’t Be Afraid to Spend a Little Money

Traditionally, RVing means saving money. That’s not necessarily the case if you’re RVing in New York City. Be prepared to spend a little more money than you’re used to.

You may have to pay to eat lunch or dinner in the city because you can’t make it back to your RV. You may even find you want to stay in the city one evening in a hotel to save some time!

RVing in New York City is doable. It just looks different than other RV trips you’ve taken in the past! With these tips, you can make your NYC vacation as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
