From 02nd to 16th of May 2010 the third edition of the “Drive responsibly” campaign was carried out by Open Youth. 2010 turned out to be the most successful for the campaign thanks to the introduced novelties in the framework of the HEROES project.
The first novelty was the mobile phone alcotest which can be downloaded for free from Open Youth road safety website http://roadsafety.open-youth.org . For the five months since its release the site was visited by more than 60 000 unique visitors. The application itself was downloaded 8 061 times. The second novelty was the training of local young people to carry out the campaign. 103 youngsters took part in the trainings in Targovishte, Razgrad, Shumen, Silistra and Dobrich. The third novelty was alcogoggles, simulating vision with 0.7 promiles of alcohol. They were met with greatest interest by the citizens of the five cities. 1195 people tried while being sober how does it look to walk after a few drinks.
The interest to the already traditional alcokart and driving simulator was also very high. The alcokart attracted 658 participants, while the driving simulator – 526. The “Drive responsibly” campaign owes its success mainly to the enthusiasm and professionalism of the local youth volunteers, but not only. The campaign was supported by the European Commission through the Executive Agency of Health and Consumers in the framework of the HEROES project and by the National programme for youth activities 2008-2010. A campaign partner on national level was the Ministry of Health, represented locally by RIOKOZ. Locally we also received irreplaceable support by the local authorities of Targovishte, Razgrad, Shumen, Silistra and Dobrich. Internet partners were EasyAds and UserMedia!
Locally the results are: Razgrad – 15 trained young people, 163 participants on the alcogoggles, 86 on the driving simulator and 103 on the alcokart Shumen – 23 trained young people, 230 participants on the alcogoggles, 85 on the driving simulator and 133 on the alcokart Silistra – 24 trained young people, 285 participants on the alcogoggles, 133 on the driving simulator and 169 on the alcokart
Dobrich – 21 trained young people, 308 participants on the alcogoggles, 115 on the driving simulator and 119 on the alcokart
