Youth Participation and Active Citizenship |
02 - 07 August 2009 Vidin, Bulgaria

With this project we concentrated on various aspects of the 2 themes: Youth Participation and Active Citizenship and also Intercultural Youth Work.
The project took place in Vidin in the North West region of Bulgaria close to the borders of Romania and Serbia. The participants explored ways in which young people can be proactive within their own communities and how they can become active members of the European Community. They discussed Human Rights and how to promote them through youth work. They also looked at ways to fight stereotyping and this was done through art and drama workshops.
The participants had an opportunity to meet with a group of young people from Romania when we visited their country for a day trip. We also visited places of historical and cultural interest in Vidin and there was also a meeting with local authorities in Vidin.
The group looked at how young people’s rights are addressed in different circumstances and in different countries and different cultures. They also looked at way to promote young people’s rights and what can be done to fight stereotyping at various levels. They had an opportunity to discuss both countries’ history and how it affects current perceptions and attitudes.
We believe that the young people shared their experience and knowledge with other young people in their communities on their return.
