| Youth and Road Safety II |
22 - 30 September 2008, Vidin/Montana/Vratsa/Sofia, BULGARIA
“Open Youth” was willing to build on this success of the previous “Youth and Road Safety” project, supported by the “Youth in action” programme. In it we raised the awareness of the young participants on the issue of road safety and its relation to the media. We explored the influence that media has on forming our opinion and behaviour and then the youngsters will have the opportunity to learn how to communicate their own messages, using media. In this project, we worked on providing media with appropriate data and raising public awareness of youth safety initiatives. Half of the activities were carried outdoors. During the project, the participants had the opportunity to work with advanced technologies for road safety, namely driving simulators, provided by Responsible Young Drivers and Toyota Europe. During the project we planned road safety public events in Vidin, Vratsa, Montana and Sofia. The aim was to directly reach more than 1000 young people in those cities. However we reached more than 2000. The project participants were actively involved in the organization and execution of the happening as well as in promoting their countries and organizations during them. For the project we invited 5 partner groups from Belgium, Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Greece. We have worked with all of them before. Some of them are specialised in road safety, some in youth initiatives, and some in both. The idea was during the project each of the partners to benefit and learn from the competitive advantages of the others.
